A beginning look at building a Vancouver USA themed ecard site. In time I will feature different categories of cards about Vancouver such as Uptown, Downtown, Fort Vancouver, Clark County Museum and day trip excursions to places both in Washington and Oregon such as Hood River, Multnomah Park, etc.
I am spending a lot of mental time and energy on the learning stage at this point.
I know that ecards are not super popular any more but I can’t seem to help myself. I love working on ecard sites since I built my first one in 1998 or some year back there. I guess it’s my fall back to when I don’t quite know what to do next.
The cards for this project are a bit different as each one links to a Jigsaw puzzle with the featured image. Online Jigsaw puzzles are my second addiction and combining the two is like getting a double bolt of caffeine in a single cup.
It took me four or five days to figure out how to make the html eCards as I hadn’t made those before.
I am getting deeper into learning CSS and I needed every bit of it to get the template made. Once that was done though it’s simply a matter of going into automation mode to create the cards and puzzles.
As the site gets built I will concentrate on mostly adding Vancouver themed cards but I wanted to get things up and running and putting in some basic holiday themed cards seemed the fastest way to get going as there are more images available.
I do have a good digital camera but I need to become better at taking pictures with it. I’m hoping in the beginning to be able to use images of other photographers (if they will allow their pictures to be used) so that I can offer the best Vancouver themed cards possible.
Flickr so far seems to offer the best opportunity to find amazing pictures but getting permission is a challenge. At any rate if I cannot get permission I at least can get ideas for angles of good photo shoots for my own amateur attempts.
