Exciting News! Covington Historic House Begins Open House Events

Covington House in Vancouver, Washington

Last Sunday (March 19) Jon and I went to the Covington Open House (we are members) and listened to old time fiddling, played games and nibbled on snacks. Sounds like a very “senior” event though we did have a few families with young ones come in so it really wasn’t totally. In fact two youngsters (twins) were just a hair breath over five weeks. It was a very fun and relaxing time and we are pepped up to find some other music adventures to attend.

I volunteered to build and maintain the website for Covington House which is always “play time” for me. A couple of the ladies who are quite expert at genealogy are working on a compilation of news clippings from 1910 onwards about the house. It’s a work in progress but available on the site as a pdf to read or download. Covington Historic House.

I think I’m starting to develop a “getting old” mindset. Not sure if it’s a bad thing or just a realistic, yeah, I think this is happening mindset. Love starting new projects the bigger the better but now I feel like I left the handbrake on when I start zipping off into trailblazing daydreams. At any rate I have joined the local Vancouver Chamber of Commerce as I think it will help me to connect with businesses that might be interested in my book. This morning had a very fun “intro” call toward getting business coaching via the Chamber. That is exciting.

My book is now in two local bookstores, Fort Vancouver Bookstore (where I work) and Vintage Books (where I can spend way too much money). Luckily my husband Jon is very helpful in me “not spending” more than I’m making.

My outreach focus for a year is doing all things Instagram. I want to deep dive into it as much as possible to see it it works for me. I have been on this learning project for about four months and only making small steps with it – but I figure give myself enough time and enough keeping at it I will get there. You can find me at instagram.com/usavancouver/

So far I have done 43 posts and have 93 followers. Certainly not making any big waves in my little puddle splashing but it’s fun. Gotta have fun you know. Keeps life interesting.old

The Fun Zone

I am trying out a new puzzle program. This one I actually had commissioned so that it doesn’t have advertising which I like. 🙂

One thing I don’t like so much is that it’s hard to showcase a single puzzle. They all show up in one serving. You will have to click > Click > click > to get to a specific puzzle. Oh well.

Second thing I don’t like is that it does not seem to work on phones. 🙁

But it is fun to play . . . other than that! So I’m going to keep trying it for a bit.

What I'm reading

cozy books 1000px

So . . . I always have at least 3 books going at once. Sometimes as many as ten. Did anyone mention butterflies ?

Cozy Mysteries are a favorite. I gobble them up like potato chips. Favorite authors at the moment are Spencer Quinn, Miranda James, Rhy’s Bowen and Elli Alexander. Would love to know your favorites!

A more serious read is “Origins” by Irving Stone – which is super great. Biography of Charles Darwin. Love it even though I am reading it rather slow. Is a great read before bed as it’s not plot-driven so very calming while engaging at the same time. And I just started the “Letters of Dr. John McLoughlin” to get a bit more depth into Fort Vancouver and Hudson’s Bay Company.

My book is now available now on:

    Hi Patty,

Love the newsletter. You are doing fun and exciting with Jon, so nice. I love going to listen to music. Fun! I think most of us feel we are approaching the A word. I know you know what I mean. Gee, I could do that yesterday what happened over night syndrome. Going to one of the grands soccer games tonight. A bit nippy out but will dress warm. We have been going to one of the older grands high school plays monthly. They are terrific. I highly recommend local theater and the high school plays.

Choice of books , is very nice.
Did little stray kitty stay for good?

  2. Hi Cathy – Oh gosh – A word? – really I don’t know what that is. Arthritis? Aging? A ? Hmmm. A bit stumped. Must be “aging” ha. ha. ha.

I think going to local theater and plays would be fun. So far we haven’t ventured into that. Ah, but we are still young. . .

Little stray kitty has now become an indoor, cuddle cat named Fred. So far Larry (6 month kitten) and Fred are not best buds but they are getting better. Larry is so rumbunctious. Zoom here, zoom there, zoom.
